The Searles Soap Box Derby is back on the 22nd September brought to you by the Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk

More teams than ever before will race their handmade karts down the hilly streets of Hunstanton on a new, faster, course that starts at the town hall and finishes near the bandstand overlooking the sea.

60 teams from all over the country are coming to Norfolk to race, signups have come in from Newark, Wellingborough and Milton Keynes amongst others.

There will be entertainment on The Green including stalls, children's immersive theatre, gin tent for the adults and live music from 11am.

Cllr Elizabeth Nockolds, deputy leader and cabinet member for Culture, Heritage and Health, said: "The Soap Box Derby was a wonderfully successful event in 2018, and we're delighted that it's coming back to Hunstanton once again, supported by Searles. The Soap Box Derby will be a day packed with free family entertainment, so make sure you come along and enjoy the fun."

Patrick Richardson from Hunstanton won the veteran class last year and has created, with his grandson Oliver, an Apollo 11 rocket to race on the course: "The new course is absolutely brilliant, much faster, much more exciting. It'll be a great family day out. I'm hoping they suspend the 30 mile per hour speed limit round here for the day as we expect to exceed that."

Ed Napolitano, who has won the soap box race for the last two years, said: "I'm excited about it. The track is similar to some of the suggestions I made to the council. It should be faster than last year."

Paul Searle from Searles Leisure Resorts is pleased to be involved again: "We like to support the town whenever we can, especially when it comes to events that put Hunstanton on the map and attract visitors. The Soap Box Derby is an exciting event to be part of. The local 45 Club will also be pleased to provide the gin tent again and raise money for a local charity."

Racing starts at 11:45am until 4:15pm. Presentations will be made by the Mayor of King's Lynn & West Norfolk, Cllr Geoff Hipperson, and Cllr Elizabeth Nockolds.
