North Norfolk District Council, supported by North Norfolk Beach Runners, is set to host an official 'Mammoth Marathon' on Sunday 16 May 2021, a 26.2-mile race where competitors will be able to take in the stunning scenery of North Norfolk's Deep History Coast.
The marathon will start at 9.30am in Sea Palling; the finish line will be at Sheringham High School.
Competitors will have the opportunity to take part in a half marathon which will also take place on Sunday 17 May and will start in Mundesley; the finish will also be at Sheringham High School.
The event has been organised under UK Athletics regulations, and secures its position as an official marathon among those held in locations including London and Brighton.
Cllr. Sarah Bütikofer, Leader of North Norfolk District Council, said: "This event promises to be fantastic, not just for those taking part, who will be able to enjoy our award-winning coastline and countryside here in North Norfolk, but also for the local businesses who can look forward to lots of new visitors to the area during the weekend of the event. I am hopeful the Mammoth Marathon will be a must-attend event for runners from all parts of the country."
Clive Hedges, Chairman of North Norfolk Beach Runners, added: "This is an exciting moment in the Norfolk Road Running calendar; this will be the first road marathon run in Norfolk since the original Norfolk Marathon came to an end in 1990. The North Norfolk Beach Runners are delighted to be supporting this event which will follow the coastline in our home county. I am sure this will appeal to many runners not just locally but from farther afield. Marathon running remains incredibly popular and to have this race in the Calendar for 2020 is a real bonus."
Registration for the Mammoth Marathon will open on Monday 22 July at where more details about the event, including categories, fees, prizes, start times and the full route will be available.
