While UK electric bike sales are reportedly on a downward trend*, they continue to soar at bicycle retailer Paul’s Cycles, seeing a significant uptick in demand, even during the colder months when sales often dip.

  • Electric bike sales increased by a quarter (25%) in the past three months at Paul’s, compared to the previous period.

  • Electric mountain bike interest skyrocketed to 74% with a 13% rise in page sessions for electric bikes.

As the eco-friendly e-bike continues to be a key player in the global movement to reduce car dependency, the UK is not playing game. While UK electric bike sales trail behind other European countries in terms of sales** in the UK, there’s an exception. Based in Norfolk, Paul’s Cycles has experienced a surprising surge in demand for electric bike bikes, harnessing a growing buzz around e-bikes in their potential to reshape green urban mobility.

New community supermarket opens in Dereham

Dereham Wellspring Family Centre officially opened ‘The Food Cabin’, a new community supermarket which will provide affordable discounted food items and toiletries to people in and around the town who are on low incomes.

The Food Cabin is part-funded by Breckland Council and is based at 35 Neatherd Road, Dereham, and can provide a range of fresh food and store cupboard staples, thanks to donations from local companies. These include Morrisons, CC Wells, Tesco, Hoggies, Watton Bakery, Boots and Tall Orders, who have been providing food and toiletry items, while local businesses such as RSL fencing, Hughes, Dereham Tile and Carpet Centre and Poundland have also supported the project by giving time or equipment in building the Cabin.

The new community supermarket is the latest to join the Norfolk Community Foundation's Nourishing Norfolk Network, which already includes 14 other community supermarkets across the county.

Today (Friday 22 October) saw the official unveiling of Dereham’s wayfinding panels and finger posts that have been installed around the town to help bring its rich history to life and direct pedestrians to various points of interest.

The project was led by the aboutDereham Partnership and jointly funded by Breckland Council, Dereham Town Council and Norfolk County Council. The 14 information panels, designed in the main by local historian Sue Walker from Dereham Heritage Trust, contain lots of interesting facts, maps and old photos about the town’s past and its famous people. The panels guide visitors around the town to its main attractions and local landmarks such as Dereham Windmill, Bishop Bonner’s Cottage and the Mid-Norfolk Railway. The panels are complemented by new fingerpost direction signs around the town.

Dereham - Town for everyone

Once, if you were driving to Norwich or the Broads from the Midlands or the North you could not miss Dereham, in the dead centre of Norfolk. The A47 went straight through the middle of the place, and the chances were that you would be in a traffic jam and decide to take a break and explore this busy Georgian market town.

Now the probability is that you will pass it by, noticing perhaps just the sign to Dereham (also known as  East Dereham) . Those who live there know it as Dereham, a reference to the fact that in bygone times deer roamed the nearby woods and forests.
