Secret Menu Norfolk

Secret Menu Norfolk was launched in October, a free promo where restaurants, cafes and bars will offer an off menu dish all over Norfolk from January 2020 to March 2020. During this time customers will just quote "Secret Menu Norfolk" to get the special dish which won't be shown on the general menu. There will be the option for participating local businesses to keep, change or leave after this period for the rest of the year.

There are more than 100 restaurants / cafe's and bars taking part and its an initiative to encourage the use of local independent eateries in Norfolk during the quieter period of the year. The Secret Norfolk team have shared the following teasers of some of the secrets menus that will be available:

  • Bun Box offering a Sweet Potato Korokke Don for £6
  • Fairhaven Woodland Cafe - Vegetarian Lunch  -  Mediterranean Vegetables stuffed in to a baked mushroom topped with melting goats cheese and served with rice £7.20
  • Matty C's - The Pulled Porker Hot Dog for £4.50
  • No 29 Bar & Restaurant - is an actual secret , they won't tell you but they know its pretty special.
  • Moya - Mango Butterfly bubble Tea with cherry bubbles £4.20
  • Shikis - Norfolk Miso Seafood Soup £15
  • The Red Lion in Eaton - half price desserts with any main meal
  • Titchwell Manor - Parmesan and Black Truffle Fries £5
  • The Lobster Inn, Sherringham - Local Honey and Lemon Semifreddo £5

    Hannah Barnes won a competition earlier this year, run in conjunction with City College Norwich Art and Design students, for an illustration of the Maids Head Hotel to be printed on new mugs, which are now in the hotel’s 84 bedrooms, as part of the tea and coffee making facility.     The Italian students were victorious in a timed pancake making competition, against a team comprising staff from the Maids Head, The English Experience and Liftshare. 
     
    Linzi Rawson, Sales Manager, Maids Head Hotel explained: “The English Experience asked if we would host the group of 40 Italian students and take them on a tour of the hotel. As it was Shrove Tuesday, we decided to also introduce them to our pancake tradition.
  • Maids Head Hotel Marie Curie Norfolk Knobbler Cook Off
    City College Norwich students Katie Carruth and Robyn Jackson, who won October’s Maids Head Apple Cake Bake off, returned to the hotel on Monday to take part in a Marie Curie Norfolk Knobbler cook off to create a new dish for the hotel’s Wine Press Restaurant. The Maids Head also announced that Marie Curie will be the hotel’s charity for 2017. 
     
    Robyn worked alongside Marcin ‘Magic’ Pomierny, Maids Head Head Chef and Katie was paired with Charlie Hodson, Norfolk Food & Drink Champion.  Each team had 10 ingredients to create and cook a dish in one hour; the main ingredient was the Norfolk Knobbler sausage, from Archer’s Butchers. Sausage sales are raising money for Marie Curie in Norfolk.
  • The Grove Wins Prestigious Award

    The Grove in Cromer has been recognised by the Luxury Travel Guide as their Unique Luxury Hotel of the Year and commended for the high quality of food, amenities and accommodation.

    It comes on the back of the Eviivo Hidden Gems award shortlisting earlier in the year – to go with a double AA Rosette, four-star Gold Award and TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence -  and rounds off the eightieth anniversary of the same family running the Grove.

    The judges said:  “The Luxury Travel Guide Awards represent the pinnacle of hospitality achievement, championing the best in their respective fields; therefore to come out on top is truly an achievement to be proud of. This year has seen an unprecedented number of shortlisted companies, providing strong competition in every category.

  • City College Wins Great Norfolk Bake Off
    City College Norwich students, Katie Carruth and Robyn Jackson won the Great Norfolk Bake Off, celebrating Apple Day, at the Maids Head Hotel in Tombland on Tuesday, October 25. 
     
    Working in pairs, three Maids Head teams, drawn from departments across the hotel, battled it out against three teams of City College first year catering students. Their task was to bake an apple cake using the same recipe. Charlie Hodson, Norfolk Food & Drink champion was master of ceremonies on the day.
