Barnham Broom Celebrates Norwich Promotion with Themed Afternoon Tea

Barnham Broom’s Executive Head Chef, James Conway, has been an avid supporter of Norwich City Football Club over the years and was, like so many, over the moon when Norwich was promoted to the Premier League on Saturday after beating Blackburn 2-1.

To celebrate, Barnham Broom, which is famous for its expertly crafted afternoon teas, is serving a Canaries themed afternoon tea throughout May. Delicious cakes, reflecting the green and yellow of the team, have been designed by James Conway and his team of pastry chefs.

The afternoon tea includes a selection of finger sandwiches, including a lightly spiced green and yellow hummus sandwich, and freshly baked cherry scones and a savoury scone of cheese and sun-blush tomatoes.

However, the real show stopper is the delectable array of cakes on offer. Enjoy key lime pie tartlet with baby meringue, pistachio and lemon macarons (which are to die for!), lemon and lime drizzle cake and a mango and passionfruit cheesecake.

James Conway has previously worked with Jamie Oliver and loves adding extra flair and depth to his dishes.

Guests can enjoy afternoon tea in the relaxed lounge or Valley Bar overlooking the two 18-hole golf courses or can head out onto the terrace which boasts beautiful views and comfortable seating.

The special Norwich City Afternoon Tea is available 1st-31st May 2019 from £15.95 for traditional afternoon tea and is also available Monday-Friday from £10 as Barnham Broom’s Afternoon Tea Experience offering, which provides a dainty version of the full afternoon tea.

Afternoon tea is served with a fine selection of loose-leaf teas or a cafetière of freshly ground coffee. Guests can also upgrade their afternoon tea with a cocktail, G&T, Pimm’s, Aperol Spritz or Champagne afternoon tea for an even more memorable experience.

Combine afternoon tea with a day at Barnham Broom indulging in The Spa, using the leisure facilities or playing a round of golf.

  • Get into Golf with Golf Tuition at Barnham Broom

The team at Barnham Broom are on a mission: to introduce more people to golf through its participation in the Get into Golf scheme which is led by England Golf.

By offering an excellent range of tuition options from resident experts Alan Hemsley and Ellie Brown, the aim is to make golf more accessible and give potential golfers the confidence to try out a new sport.

As England Golf puts it: “Golf. That’s a game for middle age men in plaid trousers, right? Wrong. Golf is a great game for everyone. It’s fun, gets you fit, reduces stress and offers full lungs of fresh air. A round of golf can take you away from the hassles of everyday life and focus your mind. And it’s great for having a laugh with friends and making new ones. The famous 19th hole is a place to enjoy a drink, discuss your game and meet your future opponents.”

So, there’s a lot more to golf than meets the eye. Barnham Broom is an advocate of health and wellbeing with combined memberships for both the golf courses and The Edge Health & Fitness Club available, allowing members to enjoy time in the pool, a session in the gym or a round out on the course – promoting the importance of getting active and the positive impact that exercise and fresh air can have on mental health.

  • The Hemporium Shops

In the latest in our series finding out a little bit more about what it is like running a local independent business in Norfolk we caught up with the team behind The Hemporium Shops, one of our newest business members.

What is the History of The Hemporium Shops?

We opened our first Hemporium in Hunstanton in August 2019 followed by the second in Wells next the Sea in the first easing of the pandemic lockdown in June 2020. The third was in Holt in August 2020 with the fourth in September 2020 in Norwich just before the November lockdown. Finally shop number 5 was due to open on 5th November in Burnham Market but stalled due to the November lockdown being imposed but then opened briefly in the December prior to Tier 4  imposition for Xmas and then the January 5th 2021 lockdown!  So the next stage of easing in April could see all 5 shops open for the first time ever!
