  New electric car charging points have become available to residents to use in King’s Lynn and Hunstanton.

  The charging points based in five locations across west Norfolk have opened, ensuring that people with limited access to off-street parking can still choose an electric vehicle.
  
  Mayor of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk, Cllr Lesley Bambridge, was joined by Cabinet member for Environment and CO2 reduction, Cllr Paul Kunes to visit several of the new points and used them to charge their electric vehicles.
  
  The Mayor said: “I’m regularly driven to functions around the borough in the hybrid Mayoral car. This car is more economical and environmentally friendly. Many journeys are short enough to be completed on electric power only.

  People are being invited to kick start the New Year by signing up to Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life in Norwich and King’s Lynn.

  The charity’s much-loved events are returning to Norfolk and anyone who joins this January can claim 50 per cent off the entry fee, as part of a half-price sale, by using the code RFL23NY*.

  This is the 30th year of Race for Life and participants will receive a special medal to mark the milestone.

  Every year around 36,600 people are diagnosed with cancer in the East of England**. Money raised at Race for Life enables scientists to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer – helping to save more lives.

• Veterans Join with Greyfriars School in Making Remembrance Bird Boxes for The Walks

  Veterans from the Bridge For Heroes Armed Forces charity joined with students from Greyfriars School to prepare Remembrance Bird Boxes for The Walks.

  The boxes were made at the Bridge For Heroes Activity Centre, based in Nelson House on the North Lynn Industrial Estate, which has a fully equipped carpentry workshop and was set up to enable veterans to engage in meaningful activities, these including, in addition to carpentry, art, photography, crafts and amateur radio skills and recreational pursuits. 

  The Centre, which is open to veterans and their dependants, has seen a gradual increase in beneficiaries using the facility in the year since it first opened and it was the carpentry class that decided to make the bird boxes, having been told that many of those already in the walks were falling into disrepair.

• Mayor's Design Awards 2022 winners announced

  Local architectural excellence and craftsmanship was celebrated last night. The Mayor’s Design Awards winners were announced at a special ceremony held at King’s Lynn Town Hall.

  An initial 72 entries and 52 site visits were shortlisted down to 35 nominated schemes for awards in ten categories.

  Mayor of King's Lynn & West Norfolk, Cllr Lesley Bambridge, said: "The awards ceremony was a great evening, a celebration of our push for better design and innovation and construction standards across our borough. We've worked closely with architects, contractors, developers, and their clients to achieve this aim, and we are glad to reward buildings and schemes that illustrate this focus on quality and innovation.

• Going golf crazy in The Walks
  in Norfolk Guide

  A new crazy golf game that’s opened in The Walks, King’s Lynn, close to the café is already proving popular.

  Cllr Brian Long, Cabinet member for Corporate Services, said: “Our public open space team installed this refurbished crazy golf game at the end of last week and already hundreds of people have stopped to play it"".

  “We have also integrated this into the borough council’s Summer of Play programme, where we offer a range of activities for children and young people by giving them something that helps them have fun, socialise and be more active. To play a round here, and hire a club, it costs only £1.50 per adult and £1 per child. This can be booked at the café".
