On 4 October the United States Air Force's 67th Special Operations Squadron (SOS), assigned to the 352nd Special Operations Group at RAF Mildenhall, will be granted Freedom of Hunstanton in recognition of the vital role they played during the 1953 flood. Whilst honouring the squadron, the town will also remember one particular member, Reis Leming, who single-handedly saved 27 people. Mr Leming’s widow, Kathy, and son, Michael will be granted Freedom of Hunstanton as a tribute to Mr Leming, who died in 2012.
