Norfolk Show Ball raises £51,500 for EACH

Seven hundred people enjoyed a riot of colour, sizzling entertainment and fantastic food at the Norfolk Show Ball on Friday (21 June), raising a superb £51,500 for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospice (EACH).

The event at Norfolk Showground saw guests entertained by Tropicalia dancers, a stunning set by illusionist Sean Alexander and an electric performance by the Joe Ringer Band.

There were a huge array of auction lots, including a guitar donated by EACH Ambassador Ed Sheeran, a luxury stay in Bali and a flight in a Second World War fighter plane. The best-performing was a five-night stay in Brazil for two, donated by Humboldt Travel, that raised £7,000.

Carol Plunkett, EACH Norfolk Fundraising Manager, said: “Friday was amazing, the dancefloor was packed all night long and we’re really happy to have received so much positive feedback. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this night such a spectacle, including all our lovely volunteers. The fantastic amount raised will go towards helping continue our care and support service for children and young people with life-threatening conditions, and their families, across Norfolk.”

The Norfolk Show Ball always raises vast amounts of money for good causes. This year’s was managed by Softley Events and the dress code was black tie, with a colourful twist.

It was supported by the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association and sponsored by Loveday & Partners, Abel Homes and Gordon Barber Funeral Directors.

The nook is the culmination of a £10 million fundraising campaign by EACH. The charity still has around £900,000 to raise before the hospice is expected to open in the coming months.

  • How your winter clear-out can make a difference to families in Norfolk

A charity is pledging to continue caring for all the clothes people throw away as part of their winter clear-out, so it can continue caring for the region’s most vulnerable children and their families.

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) is running its Bag It, Bring It, Boost It donation drive to help ensure high levels of stock heading into a year when the charity hopes for £5 million income from its shops. EACH currently needs around 7,500 bags of donations a week to keep its retail operation running.

A company from Norwich has already pledged its support of the campaign and filled 25 giant sacks. Staff of SG Wealth Management have contributed clothes, books, DVDs, toys, bric-a-brac and more.

Staff have organised activities to take place throughout the anniversary year and a special commemorative range of gifts will be available for customers to purchase in-store and online. A percentage of all sales will be donated to EACH.

  • Dereham Florist wows at Royal Nook Opening

Rebecca Larner, 22, of florist The Botany House in Dereham has wowed guests, families and Royalty with her floral displays at the recent opening of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) new hospice, The Nook at Framingham Earl in Norfolk.

Monitored and helped through the Prince’s Trust, Rebecca is already a force to be reckoned with in the world of floristry. This was recognised through the beautiful posy and flowers created for and given to HRH The Duchess of Cambridge, Royal Patron of EACH at the opening of The Nook on Friday 15 November. The stunning floral arrangements were provided to the charity free of charge and included a combination of flowers which at their centre had the meaning of remembrance and healing for those children and their families enduring the challenges of a life-threatening illness.

Rebecca’s passion for sustainability ties in nicely with the focus of her long-term hero Shane Connolly who did the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s royal wedding flowers and like Shane she thinks carefully about the flowers and their meaning before incorporating them into an arrangement.

  • Fin-tastic! EACH opens 40th shop in Sheringham

There were great shell-abrations in Sheringham this morning as East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) declared its 40th shop of-fish-ially open.

Mermaid Merchelle and Pirate Pete from Elite Productions’ A Mermazing Pirate Adventure, the show on at Sheringham Little Theatre this afternoon, cut the ribbon at the Station Road outlet. Customers then made waves as they flooded through the doors, spending £555 in the first hour.

Naomi Munro, Shop Manager, said: “It was just mermazing scenes here for the ribbon-cutting and I think we’ve done a great job of really sea-zing the day. We couldn’t have fished for much more, that’s for shore.

“The initial support from customers has been s’whale and we hope it won’t drift away going forward. The porpoise of this shop is to help bring in money for the care of children and young people with life-threatening conditions across the region, and support of their families.”

  • Party vibes in Poringland as charity shop celebrates first birthday

There were balloons, banners and bunting aplenty at a charity shop in Poringland as staff and volunteers celebrate its first birthday.

As well as being able to browse for a bargain, customers of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) are being treated to cakes. A guess the name of a giant teddy bear competition is running and any children dropping by can pick up a free book.

The shop is on the doorstep of the nook, EACH’s new hospice that has been under construction since November 2017
