Dalegate Market finalist in "The Rural Oscars"

Two Norfolk businesses are celebrating after being listed as finalists in the Countryside Alliance Awards, ‘The Rural Oscars’.  Friends Crawford White, of G. F. White Butchers in Aylsham, and Jason Borthwick, of Dalegate Market in Burnham Deepdale, have won awards in the past, but to be finalists in the hotly contested national awards is superb news.

“We’ve won the regional butcher award in the past, but to be up for the national award is great.  Fingers crossed we’ll be celebrating with Jason and the Dalegate Market team in April, when we all attend the awards ceremony at Westminster.” Said Crawford.

From across the UK, there are only 42 finalists across 4 categories.  Dalegate Market joins nine other finalists in the Tourism Enterprise Category, and G. F. White Butchers joins nine other finalists in the Butcher Category.  The judging process starts after Christmas with visits from the panel, and the winners are announced at a lunch in April.

“Being invited to Westminster is always an honour and we’re in excellent company with these other finalists.  It’ll be a nervous wait until April, but it will help to know there are friends at the reception.  Good luck to Crawford and his team.” Said Jason Borthwick

Crawford is the third generation of butchers, learning his trade from his grandfather and father, before he took over the business fully fourteen years ago.  G. F. White Butchers are renowned for the quality of their meat, and the provenance of that meat.

Jason and his father, Alister, set up Dalegate Market almost ten years ago, and the site has grown into a major North Norfolk Coast hub.  The site is home to shops and Deepdale Café, which are open throughout the year.  Jason also organises the Deepdale Christmas Market, which hosted over one hundred stalls this year and welcomed over ten thousands visitors throughout the three days.

Norfolk should be immensely proud to have such a good representation in these prestigious National Awards.

Dalegate Market is also a proud member of All Things Norfolk - for more information about Dalegate Market please see http://www.allthingsnorfolk.com/all-things-norfolk-directory/1773-dalegate-market-shopping-cafe.html#ad-image-13

  • Deepdale Festival 2021

With just over 3 weeks to go before Deepdale Festival 2021, the team at Deepdale Camping & Rooms are getting excited about hosting their first live music since 2019.  And with the line-up that Chris Haycock has put together, the excitement is completely understandable.

This will be the 4th Deepdale Festival, which sees a brick barn become the main stage, an orchard become a folk stage and street performance venue, and St Mary’s Church host special performances.

Hundreds of music fans will enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, the excellent drinks & food, and an incredible music line-up.

“It will be truly wonderful to host live music again at Deepdale, and I can’t wait to introduce these fabulous artists from the UK music scene including Martin Simpson, 3 Daft Monkeys, Katherine Priddy, Little Red Kings, Katie Doherty & The Navigators, Kirsty Merryn & Ben Walker, Man The Lifeboats, The Drystones and The Goat Roper Rodeo Band.”said Chris Haycock, Festival Director.

“The music industry has had a really tough couple of years, so it feels great to be able to support these hugely talented artists, and showcase their music to our lovely visitors.  Can’t wait to be dancing in the Brick Barn again, it’s been too long.”

Since Chris Haycock and Jason Borthwick took on the management of Deepdale Camping & Rooms in late 2016, they have developed not only Deepdale Festival, but also Deepdale Hygge and a series of Live Music Sundays.  Chris has been working with bands for many years, and wanted to create a music scene at Deepdale.  It’s a testament to his hard work and passion that Deepdale is now hosting the quality of acts that it is.

  • Owners of One of North Norfolk’s Best Cafés Retire

After discovering the joys of relaxing in their garden during the Covid-19 lockdown, Viv and Graham have decided to sell Deepdale Café and enjoy their retirement. They’ve run the busy café with Sophie for more than 6 years, in which time they’ve fed royalty, the famous, and those who love the North Norfolk Coast.

Deepdale Café is at the heart of Dalegate Market, the busy independent shopping centre in Burnham Deepdale.  With an all year round footfall, surrounded by lovely independent shops, with lots of indoor and outdoor seating, the café is a brilliant opportunity for new owners with energy and enthusiasm.

“I’ve loved welcoming visitors to eat and drink at Deepdale Café, over the last 6 years.  The enforced rest from the lockdown made me realise that it was time to wear my slippers more often, enjoy my garden, and pass on Deepdale Café to someone with more energy than we have.” Viv, owner and manager of Deepdale Café.  “Amazing to think we’ve served so many meals in the last 6 years.  Going to miss the buzz and seeing the customers, but time to move on and enjoy other things.”

  • Spring will be ‘Well & Truly Sprung’ in Burnham Deepdale

What a difference a year makes, and 2017 is going to be a great year in Burnham Deepdale, with a new team running the hostels and campsite at Deepdale Farm, the return of Deepdale Conservation Weekends, the second Deepdale Spring Market, the inaugural Deepdale Hygge, and the first ever North Norfolk Coast Hygge Fair.  And that just tells you what’s happening up until the first weekend of Spring at the end of March.  Beyond that there is so much more planned, but we’ll come to that in due course.

The new team at Deepdale Backpackers & Camping are really beginning to make good their plan to return the award winning facilities at Deepdale to their best.  The redecoration is almost complete, the new shower blocks are under construction, the electric hookup cables are in and the worst of the trench digging is done.  600m of hedges are due to be planted at the next Deepdale Conservation Weekend over the first weekend of February.

  • Times They Are A Changin’

This week, the original creators of Deepdale Backpackers & Camping are back at the helm for the first time in seven years. Jason Borthwick and a whole new team, headed by Chris Haycock, are immensely excited about the future.

As the old tenants leave for pastures new in Cumbria, there will be a regeneration at Deepdale. This Winter, visitors will see a whole series of improvements and additions.  Amongst those changes will be new shower and toilet facilities for the campsite, electric hook-ups on some pitches, a completely refitted visitor information centre, huge planting programme of trees and hedges, and new services such as bike hire.
