Easy to find from the A140 Norwich to Cromer road, the Aylsham Fun Barns are in a tucked-away position yet within walking distance of Aylsham’s historic market place.
If the weather is wet, there’s plenty to do inside the barns, with a giant sandpit, inflatables, ride-on toys, family favourites such as giant four-in-a row and floor snakes and ladders.
A soft play corner keeps babies and toddlers amused, while older children love the pedal tractors and diggers which have a barn to themselves along with a great heap of bark chip to shovel about and the Go-Karts in the lower barn.
If the weather is kind, there is an outdoor adventure playground, a rabbit and guinea pig village, and a paddock walk to see pygmy goats, Kune-Kune pigs, Shetland ponies and donkeys. The ponies and donkeys also give rides for a small extra charge; a hugely popular activity with the children and one which is hard to find these days.
When everyone is ready for refreshment, the café serves a range of home made food freshly prepared from local and fair-trade produce. The children’s menu is especially welcome since you can pick and mix from choices such as boiled egg and soldiers and cheesy pasta; perfect for those ‘picky eaters’ and all at very reasonable prices.
There’s easily enough to do for a whole morning and many people stay for the day. Why not combine a visit with a trip on the Bure Valley steam railway? The Broads Hopper bus picks up from the station and drops you just a short walk away from the Barns
